The head of the Change Movement, Elie Mahfoud, announced the filing of a criminal complaint against those who assaulted Maronite Patriarch Cardinal Mar Bechara Boutros Al-Rai.
He said: "The issue is beyond mere transgression, rather it now touches upon a crisis of an entire society in Lebanon, and there is a segment that has adopted the language of hatred and disrespect."
Mahfoud indicated that "what Patriarch Al-Rai was subjected to is now in the judiciary, and the Maronite Patriarchate did not ask us to take any action, but rather a group of lawyers took the initiative to file the complaint."
Mahfoud addressed Al-Rai, saying: "The assault on Patriarch Al-Rai fundamentally affects you, as you grew up in a Maronite school belonging to Bkerke." He added: "I tell you that an apology is rejected if there is no investigation, arrest, and trial before the Lebanese judiciary for every transgressor, and if that does not happen, then we are heading towards great chaos, as the matter concerns the prestige of the state."
