Palestinian artist to perform at 2026 World Cup opening ceremony
FIFA announced the opening ceremony lineup for the 2026 World Cup, featuring a Palestinian-Chilean singer among global stars.
The 2026 FIFA World Cup, hosted across the United States, Canada, and Mexico, will kick off with three separate opening ceremonies on June 11. FIFA has revealed a lineup of international artists set to perform at each event, including a Palestinian-Chilean singer.
Among the names confirmed for the U.S. ceremony are Anitta, Katy Perry, Lisa, Rema, and Tyla. The global football body stated the event will also celebrate the 250th anniversary of the United States' founding, with additional international performers to be announced.
Canadian ceremony highlights
In Canada, the opening ceremony will feature Palestinian-Chilean artist Elyanna, alongside Alanis Morissette, Alicia Keys, Jessie Reyez, Michelle Papel, Nora Fatehi, Sanjoy, Vijiidream, and William Prince. FIFA described the Canadian event as a "historic" gathering where "cultures connect" and football and music unite the world.
Elyanna, 22, whose full name is Elyanna Amer Marjiya, was raised in Nazareth, Palestine, before moving to Los Angeles as a child. She gained early recognition through producer and singer Nasri, who has worked with Justin Bieber, Pitbull, and Chris Brown. Nasri introduced her to global star Massari and producer Wassim "Sal" Slaiby, who now manages her career. Her debut album was titled "Ana Lahali."
The singer achieved international prominence after performing at the Coachella music festival, becoming the first Arab artist to sing in Arabic at the event since its inception.
Three-nation opening
FIFA also released a video for the Mexican ceremony, stating "the world comes alive as football, music and culture spark the start of the #FIFAWorldCup." The three opening events reflect the unprecedented tri-national hosting arrangement for the 2026 tournament.
"The world’s game reaches its biggest stage in the USA," FIFA wrote on social media platform X, adding that "the United States takes centre stage as football, music, and culture ignite the FIFA World Cup."
