Lebanon's Interior Minister Ahmed al-Hajjar held a meeting to address severe traffic congestion in Beirut and Mount Lebanon, ordering increased police presence and stricter enforcement.

A meeting convened by Interior and Municipalities Minister Ahmed al-Hajjar at his office focused on the worsening traffic situation, particularly in the governorates of Beirut and Mount Lebanon, and the measures needed to curb congestion and regulate traffic flow. The gathering included Beirut Governor Marwan Abboud, Mount Lebanon Governor Mohammed Makkawi, Internal Security Forces Director General Major General Raed Abdullah, and several concerned officers.
During the session, al-Hajjar stressed the necessity of intensifying field efforts to address traffic pressure in the capital, at its entrances, and in other cities, aiming to alleviate the daily suffering of citizens. He instructed attendees to bolster measures and increase the deployment of traffic patrol units at intersections and main roads that experience heavy traffic, especially during peak hours.
Stricter Enforcement and Coordination
The minister issued directives for a firm crackdown on traffic violations and the removal of encroachments on public property, including sidewalks. He also called for an end to double parking and for enhanced coordination with municipal police and the Fire Brigade within the two governorates.
