Speaker of Parliament Nabih Berri condemned campaigns of abuse and transgression against religious and national symbols, calling on the Lebanese to be aware of the dangers of sliding into discord.

Speaker of Parliament Nabih Berri condemned campaigns of abuse and transgression against religious and national symbols "from whatever source, and by whatever means, whether in the media or in virtual space," calling on the Lebanese to "be aware of the dangers of sliding into discord, which the common enemy of the Lebanese, both Christians and Muslims, has long dreamed of and sought."
He said in a statement: "Whoever dared yesterday to demolish the school and convent of the Salvatorian Sisters and St. George's Church in Yaroun, and destroy the statue of Christ (PBUH) in Debel, and before that demolish the historic Grand Mosque in Bint Jbeil, and today the Husseini Club in the town of Al-Duwair, is the only victor in the Lebanese deviating from their rights, and in their infighting, God forbid."
He added: "Beware, beware of indulging in discord, may God curse whoever awakens it. National responsibility dictates that everyone works to bury it, not to fuel its flames. Judicial authorities are called upon to act immediately to hold accountable those who insult and disrespect the sanctity and dignity of the messages of heaven and earth."
He emphasized that "everyone at this moment is called upon to realize that the love of God and the hatred of man are not compatible, and sufficient for all of us is His Almighty saying: In the name of God, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful: {And fear a trial which will not strike those who have wronged among you exclusively, and know that Allah is severe in penalty.} God Almighty has spoken the truth."
