The Lebanese Government approved the Second National Action Plan for implementing Security Council Resolution 1325 on Women, Peace and Security, which was prepared by the National Commission for Lebanese Women using a participatory approach in cooperation with ministries, public administrations, security and military institutions, civil society organizations, and religious, educational, academic, trade union, media, and international organizations.
The approval of the Second National Plan reflects a national commitment to promoting the full and effective participation of women in various areas of public life and decision-making positions, and an affirmation of their pivotal role in conflict prevention and peacebuilding.
The development of this plan, whose objectives the Commission hopes will be successfully achieved, is the fruit of cooperation between the National Commission for Lebanese Women and UN Women, and ABAAD – Resource Center for Gender Equality – within the framework of its project funded by the Dutch Ministry of Foreign Affairs, and with contributions from Search for Common Ground and the Geneva Centre for Security Sector Governance (DCAF).
The National Commission expresses its deep appreciation to all parties and to everyone who contributed to the preparation of this Second National Plan, affirming its continued commitment to monitoring the implementation process to achieve a more just, secure, and stable society based on the principle of citizenship and respect for human rights.
