A US official revealed to Al Arabiya, on Tuesday, that his country calls on the Lebanese government to turn the capital Beirut into a weapon-free zone, stressing the need to expedite the implementation of the Lebanese plan in this regard.
The official explained, in his statements, that Washington asked Israel to exercise restraint in Lebanon, and to give room for diplomacy to move freely.
Obstacles in the way of negotiations
The official pointed out that Hezbollah still poses an obstacle to negotiations between Lebanon and Israel, considering that there is a belief that there is an opportunity to achieve "real change" in Lebanon.
He noted that US President Donald Trump believes in the importance of direct dialogue between Israel and Lebanon, as part of the pursuit of stability in the region.
