US President Donald Trump said today, Wednesday, that "Iran formed part of the election result" which led to a clear advantage for the Democratic Party, affirming at the same time that he is "not sorry for launching war on Tehran."

Trump justified the "historic win" of the Democrats in the elections by stating that Americans are "not ready to bear the consequences of the war with Iran."

In contrast, Trump praised the performance of the Democrats during the elections, noting that they "did a good job."

Trump said in a phone interview conducted by "Fox News": "I think it is partly due to Iran, but at the same time, people realize the importance of what I did regarding Iran."

The US President expressed readiness to work with the Democrats on immigration, adding that he can also work with them "on many matters."

Trump said that the Democrats will send him legislation that he described as "crazy," adding that he will use his veto power against it.

He added, "They will send me illogical things, and I will veto them. After two months of using the veto, they will call me and ask: How do we get this done? And we will work together."

Earlier, Trump had confirmed that he would accept the results of the midterm elections, telling The New York Times newspaper, "I am fully prepared to accept those results. We will work with the Democrats, and we look forward, as you know, to cooperating with them. We will likely reach understandings."

The Democrats are heading towards seizing control of the US Congress in the midterm elections, after gaining the majority in both the Senate and the House of Representatives, turning Tuesday's vote into a harsh defeat for Trump and his Republican Party.

CNN and CNBC networks reported that the Democrats secured the majority in both the House and the Senate, giving them the upper hand in blocking Trump's legislative agenda and initiating investigations against his officials, which they had threatened early on.

The elections are considered a popular referendum on Trump's second term, especially given voter dissatisfaction with rising living costs, tariffs, and the ongoing war on Iran, which contributed to higher fuel prices, causing the President's approval ratings to fall to historic lows as a result of all these factors.
