IMF chief flags AI supply chain advantage for Asian nations
IMF Managing Director Kristalina Georgieva stated that countries integrated into AI supply chains hold a stronger economic position.

IMF Managing Director Kristalina Georgieva asserted that nations deeply embedded in artificial intelligence supply chains currently occupy a more robust and favorable economic standing. Her remarks were delivered during the International Monetary Fund and World Bank meetings held in Bangkok, as reported by the Associated Press.
AI integration drives economic strength
Georgieva explained that economies with the highest levels of connection to AI supply networks are generally better positioned. She noted that many of these leading countries are located across Asia, specifically citing Thailand, Malaysia, South Korea, and Singapore as examples of this trend.
Beyond technology leaders, the IMF chief highlighted that energy-exporting nations are also experiencing successful economic performance. This dual observation underscores the varied sources of current global economic resilience.
Global growth projections remain stable
In a related context, Georgieva reviewed global economic growth indicators, projecting a rate of 3.1% for 2026. She clarified that this forecast has remained unchanged since April.
Despite its stability, the projected figure remains lower than the 3.4% growth achieved by the global economy in the previous year. The data highlights a slight deceleration compared to recent historical performance.
