Iraq Signs $200 Billion Energy Deals with U.S. Companies

Iraq's Oil Minister, Basim Mohammed, stated that the agreements signed between the Iraqi Ministry of Oil and American companies during Prime Minister Ali Al-Zaidi's visit to the United States amount to approximately $200 billion.

In an interview with the official Iraqi television on Tuesday evening, the minister noted that these agreements will significantly increase oil production capacity and enhance investments in associated gas projects.

He added that Iraq's current oil production capacity stands at 4.8 million barrels per day.

An Iraqi official confirmed that the country is seeking to expand its oil exports through alternative outlets other than the Strait of Hormuz, as part of a governmental plan to deliver Iraqi oil supplies to global markets.

Iraq faces the challenge common to many oil-producing countries: attracting investments and increasing production, while still being constrained by production limits imposed by the OPEC+ alliance.

Despite possessing some of the world's largest crude oil reserves, Iraq's long-standing production restrictions complicate its ambitions to raise revenues to support its rapidly growing population.
