By 09:40 Moscow time, the dollar was being traded at the 49-lira mark. This figure represents the absolute bottom in the history of Turkish currency transactions. The previous day’s close saw the dollar ending at approximately 48.98 lira before rising to 49 lira in early Tuesday sessions.

Turkish economic publication "Capital" reported these specific movements. According to local media outlets, the lira's decline coincides with the strength of the dollar across global markets.

Past Currency Volatility

This is not the first instance of severe depreciation for the lira recently. Throughout 2025, the currency hit several low points driven by high inflation rates and persistent issues within the Turkish financial market.

In March 2026, the lira had previously set a historic record when the dollar reached 44.1 lira. That earlier drop occurred amid conflict in the Middle East and sharp increases in global oil prices.
