Burkina Faso's president intervened in football affairs after a 0-7 loss to Argentina, risking FIFA sanctions for government interference.

Ibrahim Traore, the President of Burkina Faso, decided to intervene in the affairs of his country's national football federation following the controversy surrounding the recent trip to Argentina.
Burkina Faso lost 0-7 against Argentina in a friendly played on October 3 as part of the International Federation of Association Football "FIFA" break.
The friendly between Argentina and Burkina Faso saw organizational problems for the African team, which resulted in the U23 squad traveling to play the match instead of the first team.
This came after Burkina Faso players apologized for not playing the match due to the delay of their flight to Buenos Aires from September 30 to October 3, the same day the match was scheduled.
Ibrahim Traore said in statements to French radio "Monte Carlo": "It is true that our football suffers from an ailment, and we will find the cure soon. But in order to reinvest, this disease must be treated."
He elaborated: "I think we will face important decisions this week that will be crucial for moving forward."
He added: "New developments may emerge, and we will do our utmost to care for young players and prepare them for upcoming tournaments. I told the federation president last time: usually we do not want to interfere in your affairs, but now we have no choice; we must intervene."
FIFA prohibits government intervention in the work of national football federations, making the Burkinabe president's comments a tool that FIFA could use to sanction the African country.
He concluded: "But if we intervene, it is to handle the matter better. We will inject new energy and look for ways to do things differently."
