Ajax striker Tolu credits Osimhen for Dolberg tribute after NEC draw
Tolu Arokodare revealed Victor Osimhen inspired his shirt display honoring injured teammate Kasper Dolberg following a 1-1 draw with NEC.

Victor Osimhen provided the inspiration behind Ajax forward Tolu Arokodare’s gesture of solidarity toward injured teammate Kasper Dolberg. Following Saturday’s 1-1 stalemate against NEC, the towering striker explained that the Nigeria national team captain suggested he perform the tribute during their recent time together.
The tribute and its origin
Arokodare rose above Perr Schuurs to net his seventh goal of the campaign. After the match concluded, he retrieved a jersey bearing the number 9 and Dolberg’s name from behind one of the goals. He then displayed the shirt to the supporters in the stands.
"The idea came from Victor Osimhen," Arokodare stated shortly after the game. "He told me during our time with the Nigeria national team over the past week that I should do something for Dolberg. I still have to thank him for that."
Dolberg's injury status
Kasper Dolberg recently sustained a serious knee injury and faces months of rehabilitation. The setback occurred during an international break, a timing that Arokodare described as particularly unfortunate.
"Kasper is a very sweet and kind guy. And a hugely important player for us. We have several injured players, but his situation is a bit different. Nobody wants to suffer a serious injury in training. And certainly not during an international break," Arokodare said to ESPN.
The loss was significant for Dolberg, who had appeared to regain his footing at the club. "You wouldn't wish that on anyone. This was my way of giving him a lift. And of showing the fans that they should do the same," added the Ajax leading scorer.
Frustration over dropped points
Despite the personal milestone, Arokodare expressed dissatisfaction with the result. The single goal failed to secure three points for Ajax, leaving the striker frustrated by the outcome.
"It was a frustrating evening. At home we always have to win this match. If we had won, I could have enjoyed it more. But now it has left a sour taste. The goal is not important now," he concluded.
