Atletico Madrid’s Simeone Confirms Alvarez Will Miss Sevilla Match
Atletico Madrid coach Diego Simeone confirmed Julian Alvarez will not play against Sevilla despite ongoing speculation, stating the forward remains absent from training and is not ready for Saturday’s match.

Diego Simeone, Atletico Madrid’s head coach, has confirmed Julian Alvarez will not feature in the team’s upcoming match against Sevilla — ending speculation about the forward’s availability despite his continued absence from training sessions.
Alvarez ruled out for Sevilla clash
In his pre-match press conference, Simeone acknowledged the focus on Alvarez, saying: “I understand all the questions will revolve around Julian, even though the club has been decisive and clear in everything it has explained.”
He reiterated his position: “I remain in the same place. From a sporting standpoint, I am waiting to be able to support him and help him continue being one of our key players — but clearly, he will not be present tomorrow.”
Simeone names preferred strike pairing
When asked about Atletico Madrid’s optimal attacking line-up this season, Simeone responded succinctly: “Julian Alvarez and Sorloth.”
However, Norwegian striker Alexander Sorloth remains injured. Simeone added: “His absence hurts us, and the impact is greater due to Julian’s situation. The team is trying, through collective effort, to find solutions that allow us to create goal-scoring opportunities.”
Team performance unaffected by media attention
Addressing whether the surrounding noise regarding Alvarez affects the squad’s performance, Simeone stated: “The players are working very well. The team delivered strong matches against Malaga and Villarreal. We want to deliver another good match tomorrow, and I don’t see this affecting us.”
He concluded: “I don’t have much more to explain about Julian. From the moment he returns to train with us, we will give him what we have always given him — so he feels like an important player, as he is for our team.”
Simeone thus closed his remarks on the forward’s status, affirming his readiness to support Alvarez’s return to peak condition as soon as the player resumes training with the squad.
