FC Porto signs Chris Smalling on free transfer until 2027

Chris Smalling has officially joined FC Porto following a free transfer agreement announced by the Portuguese champions. The club confirmed the deal for the former Manchester United defender, who arrives after completing two seasons with Saudi Arabian side Al-Fayha.

The 36-year-old England international signed a contract that remains valid until the conclusion of the 2026/27 season. Porto stated that an option to extend this agreement exists, contingent upon the achievement of specific sporting objectives.

Smalling’s career milestones

Smallings brings extensive experience to Francesco Farioli’s squad, having secured two Premier League titles during his ten-year tenure at Manchester United. He subsequently contributed to Roma’s victory in the inaugural Europa Conference League.

On the international stage, the centre-back earned 31 caps for England. His national team career included participation in both the 2014 World Cup and Euro 2016.

Prior to his move to Saudi Arabia, Smalling played for several English clubs, including Maidstone United, Millwall, and Fulham.
