Real Madrid is preparing to adjust the composition of its squad under Jose Mourinho’s direction by targeting a new signing to address what the coach views as a missing element in the team.

Although Real Madrid already has one of the world’s most dangerous forwards, Mourinho remains convinced that the team requires an additional striker to be decisive in the most challenging matches of the upcoming season.

Mourinho has requested that the club’s management pursue the acquisition of a new forward, despite his confidence in Kylian Mbappé’s abilities in the striker position.

The Portuguese coach believes that Mbappé remains the best available option for the team in that role, but he considers that the French star, who initially started his career as a winger before transitioning to striker, does not possess all the attributes Mourinho seeks in a pure striker.

Characteristics of the Desired Striker

According to journalist Mario Cortegana of The Athletic, speaking on Ruben Martin’s YouTube channel and reported by Defensa Central, this transfer appears complicated at present because most players in the squad are reluctant to leave.

Real Madrid views the necessity for a striker specialized in capitalizing on chances inside the penalty area and finishing attacks, particularly in matches where the opposition defends in a compact manner.

Mourinho evaluates the duo Gonzalo García and Indrik positively but believes both lack a crucial element: height and the ability to handle aerial balls effectively.

The coach is seeking a tall striker proficient at receiving crosses and converting opportunities inside the box, especially against teams that rely on dense defensive formations, a pattern Mourinho has consistently employed throughout his coaching career.

Real Madrid’s Transfer Priorities

Despite Mourinho’s request, signing a new striker is not Real Madrid’s top priority in the transfer market. The club is primarily focused on acquiring a central defender and an attacking midfielder before considering reinforcements to the forward line.

The report notes that any new signing will depend on the club’s ability to offload certain players during the current transfer window, given the squad’s current size.

The future of Gonzalo García remains uncertain, as Real Madrid has postponed making a final decision on him until it determines whether it can sign the "tall striker" Mourinho desires.

If the club fails to secure a striker with the specified profile, García may retain his place in the first team as an additional attacking option, although he is not Mourinho’s preferred choice.

The issue of player departures will be decisive in Real Madrid’s upcoming transfer activities, as the number of exits will determine how many new signings the club can complete before the window closes.
