Swiss Football Federation Withdraws Infantino FIFA Support

The Executive Committee of the Swiss Football Federation (ASF) has officially withdrawn its backing for Gianni Infantino’s candidacy for a new term as president of FIFA. This decision marks a significant reversal in the home country of the current international football governing body chief.

Reversal of June Endorsement

In a formal statement, the ASF Central Committee confirmed it was rescinding the support it had initially granted to Infantino in June 2026. The federation explained that this move followed a comprehensive reassessment of developments over the past few months.

According to the official release, recent incidents have raised fundamental questions regarding leadership style, governance, transparency, and decision-making processes within FIFA from the perspective of the Swiss Football Federation.

Pressure Ahead of March Vote

This withdrawal comes as the 56-year-old Swiss-Italian administrator faces widespread criticism and mounting pressure ahead of the FIFA presidential elections scheduled for next March in Morocco.

Infantino recently abandoned a controversial proposal to open FIFA investment opportunities to private sector investors. He was forced to drop the project following intense rejection from continental and international bodies.
