The Israeli Public Broadcasting Corporation revealed American and Israeli assessments that the reason behind Hezbollah's firing of long-range missiles and expanding its targets in Israel, for the first time in weeks, is to disrupt negotiations.
The Israeli army prepared an offensive plan deep in Lebanon awaiting approval from the political level, while the army recommended staying in the areas it seized in Lebanon in any agreement.
The Israeli army said it conducted an assessment of the current security situation on the border with Lebanon and took a set of important decisions consistent with the nature of the tense phase.
The army demanded that residents stay near shelters and bunkers as much as possible on the upcoming Sunday and Monday, while the Home Front Command announced strict instructions including suspending schools and nurseries, closing workplaces, beaches, and others.
The Israeli army's announcement coincides with reports circulated by the Hebrew media in recent hours about its efforts to expand its incursion into Lebanon and erect bridges over the Litani River.
This coincided with the departure of thousands of Israelis, on Saturday night, in a massive anti-government demonstration in a central square in Tel Aviv, demanding early elections and an end to extremist policies.
Hezbollah stated in its statement that the Israeli army, despite the increased incursion, "has not yet been able to control the mentioned towns, and that it is still maneuvering on their outskirts."
