British Embassy: Committed to Working with the Lebanese Government and Humanitarian Partners to Support Stability and Resilience

The British Embassy announced that “a delegation from the embassy led by Chargé d'Affaires Victoria Dann visited south Lebanon last Thursday, September 24, to closely observe the impact of the conflict on local communities and to reiterate the United Kingdom's support.”

In Sidon, the delegation met with the Governor of South Lebanon and Acting Governor of Nabatieh, Mansour Daou, where they discussed current challenges, the support needed to enhance local resilience, and planning for recovery efforts.

At one of the social development centers, the delegation listened to social workers from the Ministry of Social Affairs regarding their vital support for the most vulnerable Lebanese families through the government's Shock Responsive Social Safety Net Program. This initiative, led by the Ministry of Social Affairs, is implemented through a significant partnership with the World Food Programme. The United Kingdom is proud to provide humanitarian funding to the World Food Programme and this partnership.

The delegation also visited a Lebanese Army training facility in Zahrani, developed in 2025 under the UK Government's Integrated Security Fund program. Building on more than a decade of British support for the Lebanese Army, the facility serves as a key center for training that prepares military personnel for deployment across south Lebanon, helping to strengthen the presence of the Lebanese state and extend its authority.

Concluding the visit, Chargé d'Affaires Victoria Dann said: “This visit to south Lebanon was an important opportunity to witness the devastating impact of the conflict, as well as the direct and tangible difference that British support makes in the lives of local communities. The conflict has resulted in a severe humanitarian crisis characterized by thousands of casualties, widespread destruction, and mass displacement. The United Kingdom remains committed to working with the Lebanese government and humanitarian partners to support stability and resilience, and to deliver aid to those in greatest need.”
