The National Moderation Bloc urges swift completion of the René Moawad Airport access road and coastal promenade in Qlayaat, highlighting delays in contract awarding.

During a recent meeting with Prime Minister Nawaf Salam at the Grand Serail, the National Moderation Bloc emphasized the urgent need to accelerate work on René Moawad Airport in the Qlayaat area and the road leading to it. This raised questions about whether the bloc has reservations regarding the airport's operational projects.
Bloc member MP Sajee Atiyeh clarified to Al Markazia that "the ongoing work at René Moawad Airport is satisfactory up to this point; however, the coastal promenade leading to it, which stretches from the Badawi area to Akkar, has yet to have its contract awarded."
He attributed this to "delays by the Ministry of Public Works in finalizing this file, as it has not yet proceeded with awarding the contract for the coastal promenade."
When asked if the delay stems from seeking funding sources, Atiyeh responded that the necessary funding is already secured and available, and land expropriation has been completed. He identified the cause as a lack of urgency in advancing the contracting process.
Atiyeh further pointed out that "there is currently no suitable road to access René Moawad Airport, making it imperative to promptly begin rehabilitating a new coastal promenade that leads to the airport premises."
The National Moderation Bloc has placed responsibility for expediting the contracting project on the Ministry of Public Works, questioning whether the ministry will take up the task.
