Finance Minister Praises Customs Drug Enforcement for Seizing 3.5 Tons of Narcotics

Finance Minister Yassin Jaber praised the drug and money laundering enforcement division at Beirut Customs for a significant achievement involving the seizure of three and a half tons of narcotics prepared for smuggling to an African nation. He emphasized that this accomplishment demonstrates that customs authorities, when equipped with adequate resources, empowered in their role, and provided with necessary support, can effectively fulfill their mission in combating smuggling, protecting borders, and safeguarding national interests.

In a statement, Jaber commended the professionalism and vigilance displayed by customs personnel. He stated that investing in human resources through training, qualification, and the provision of modern technical tools is fundamental to enhancing customs operations and enabling them to keep pace with evolving smuggling methods, thereby strengthening the state's ability to secure its borders.

Jaber also highlighted that the ongoing customs administration development plan focuses on modernizing management, qualifying staff, and enhancing oversight and technical capabilities. This plan aims to improve customs efficiency, protect the national economy, restore the confidence of allied and friendly countries in Lebanon and the security of its legal ports and crossings, and establish a safe and reliable environment for trade exchanges that encourages investment and reinforces Lebanon’s role as a commercial partner adhering to the highest standards of compliance and transparency.
