Judicial Panel in Mount Lebanon Takes Measures to Protect Public Funds
The investigative panel in Mount Lebanon expanded its inquiry and issued decisions to safeguard the National Social Security Fund's assets amid embezzlement allegations.

The investigative panel in Mount Lebanon, led by Judge Fadi Aridi and including counselors Marji Majdalani and Cecil Sarhal, affirmed its commitment to safeguarding public funds, particularly those of the National Social Security Fund. The panel did not limit itself to preliminary and initial investigations but exercised its authority to conduct an extensive and detailed inquiry before issuing its ruling against the two defendants involved in the embezzlement case at the Btaterin office.
Additionally, the panel ordered a formal letter to be sent to the Special Investigation Commission at the Central Bank of Lebanon through the Public Prosecution's Discretionary Division, instructing the freezing of all bank accounts belonging to the defendant (L.A.A.N) at financial institutions operating in Lebanon for six months starting from the date of the decision. It also mandated sending a letter to the Central Land Registry Secretariat via the Public Prosecution's Appellate Division in Mount Lebanon to place precautionary seizure and disposal prohibition notices on all properties owned by the aforementioned defendant. These measures aim to secure the rights of the National Social Security Fund and protect the interests of the current lawsuit until a final judgment is issued.
This ruling exemplifies the proactive role played by the judiciary in combating crimes involving the misappropriation and embezzlement of public funds. It also demonstrates the adoption of precautionary measures designed to preserve rights and prevent the transfer or disposal of assets before the case reaches a conclusive decision.
