EU High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy Kaja Kallas, accompanied by Ambassador Sandra de Wael and Chairman of the EU Military Committee General Sean Clancy, visited Beirut Port. She met with Board Chairman and General Manager Marwan Nafie, as part of supporting the port's role within the Lebanese state's maritime security strategy.

Nafie and Kallas toured the container terminal, where they reviewed operational workflows and procedures adopted in the field of security and safety.

Nafie affirmed that Kallas's visit "constitutes evidence of the pivotal position occupied by Beirut Port," noting that "the European Union has stood alongside the port, particularly regarding all matters related to security and safety." He pointed out that the visit "confirms the importance of Beirut Port at the level of the national economy and the region," considering that the presence of the EU High Representative today is "a confirmation of the continuation of this support, and of the role played by the port as the gateway to the East."
Nafie stressed that "what has been achieved at the port in terms of security and safety is the result of the measures and procedures that have been adopted," affirming "continuation in developing them and maintaining the standards that enabled the port to reach the level it is at today."
