The General Directorate of the Lebanese Internal Security Forces – Public Relations Division issued the following statement:

"As part of the daily follow-up carried out by the units of the Internal Security Forces to combat crimes of all kinds across Lebanese territories, and to pursue and arrest those involved, and based on information available at the operations room of the Regional Gendarmerie Unit regarding two individuals involved in a kidnapping incident in the Maameltein area, elements of the Dahr al-Baydar checkpoint managed to arrest them while they were passing through the aforementioned checkpoint. They are:

A.F. (born in 1994, Lebanese)

W.F. (born in 1978, Lebanese)

Investigations also revealed that the two detainees, along with others, carried out the kidnapping act commissioned by one individual due to financial problems and disputes between him and the kidnapped person. They lured the latter, believing he was carrying a sum of money. When he tried to escape, shots were fired, and they proceeded to kidnap him and take him to an unknown location.

After it became clear to them that the kidnapped person did not possess any money, they released him.
