Lebanese-European Partnership... €2.1 Billion to Support the Country

Lebanon and the European Union launched a Joint Monitoring Committee as a new platform for strategic dialogue on bilateral cooperation, chaired by EU Ambassador Sandra Duval, with participation from the EU Ambassador to Lebanon and several ministers.

The first day's proceedings focused on the European Union's support for essential services in education, health, social protection, water, and sanitation, featuring an overview of progress made, challenges discussed, and opportunities to enhance sustainability.

EU Ambassador emphasized that this phase marks renewed momentum for reform since early 2025, and that the European Union is ready to support a reform path led by Lebanon, with political leadership and implementation responsibility remaining firmly Lebanese.

The committee’s work will conclude on Friday with discussions on the development cooperation portfolio and future partnership priorities; total EU support to Lebanon for the 2021–2027 period amounts to approximately €2.1 billion, including €1.6 billion in development aid.
