Lebanese Prime Minister Reviews Ministry of Telecommunications’ Plan to Restore Services in South Lebanon

Prime Minister Nawaf Salam led a coordination meeting that included the Minister of Telecommunications, chairpersons of the boards and CEOs of Alfa and Touch companies, the Ogero Authority, the general directors of the Ministry of Telecommunications, as well as engineering directors and operations managers from the ministry and affiliated companies. The meeting focused on reviewing the plan to restore telecommunications services in southern Lebanon and accelerating its implementation.

During the meeting, the Minister of Telecommunications presented the operational plan developed by the ministry in cooperation with Ogero, Alfa, and Touch. The plan aims to reinstate telecommunications services in all secure and accessible areas over the coming days by performing rapid maintenance work, resupplying sites with fuel, repairing power sources and transmission lines, activating national roaming between networks, and deploying mobile stations (cell-on-wheels). The absolute priority is the safety of the teams working on the ground.

The minister emphasized that this plan was prepared and initiated throughout the war period. Ministry teams, along with Ogero, Alfa, and Touch, have continued maintenance and operational tasks whenever security conditions permitted, to ensure continuity of telecommunications services. This effort has been supported and coordinated with the Lebanese Army and security agencies, and in some areas, in coordination with UNIFIL forces to secure safe access to sites.

He also expressed appreciation for all employees and contractors who maintained their national duty under the most difficult conditions, recalling colleagues who were martyred or injured while performing their duties. The minister affirmed that their sacrifices were fundamental in keeping Lebanon’s telecommunications network operational during the war.

Prime Minister Salam praised the efforts of the Ministry of Telecommunications teams, Ogero, Alfa, and Touch. He confirmed that the telecommunications sector is a key pillar in the national recovery plan, and that the swift restoration of services facilitates citizens’ return, supports official institutions, stimulates reconstruction efforts, and preserves the connectivity of Lebanese people during this critical period.

Salam stated, "Repairing the telecommunications network is not merely about restoring service; it is about reconnecting people with each other and with the state. Every station that returns to service eases the return of citizens to their villages, supports reconstruction, and strengthens Lebanese trust in their state institutions."

Minister of Telecommunications Charbel Hajj said, "Our instructions during difficult times were clear: services must be restored as quickly as possible in every safe and accessible area, while ensuring the safety of our working teams. What we are doing today marks the beginning of the recovery phase. The next phase involves rebuilding a more modern and resilient telecommunications network based on fiber optics (FTTH) and fifth-generation (5G) technologies, ensuring a better digital future for the people of the south and all of Lebanon. At this stage, it is our duty to keep people connected, because communication is not just a service; it is a feeling of security and belonging, a bridge linking citizens to their families, to the state, and to each other."

The participants agreed to continue daily coordination among the various concerned parties, monitor the plan’s implementation according to field priorities, and provide periodic reports on progress and challenges. This approach aims to ensure the fastest possible restoration of services, supporting the return to normal life in southern Lebanon and preparing for a comprehensive reconstruction phase.
