Lebanese Relief Authority Dispatches First Batch of Prefab Homes to West Zouk

The Lebanese Higher Relief Commission dispatched the first batch of prefabricated homes to the town of West Zouk, following directives issued by Prime Minister Nawaf Salam. The initiative aims to support local residents and displaced persons whose homes were completely destroyed, facilitating their return and continued residence in the area.

Logistics and Assembly Plan

Approximately 100 ready-made rooms were assembled in the courtyard of the new Al-Husseini Club in the Al-Sawan neighborhood of Qaqa’iyya al-Jisr, located at the western entrance to West Zouk. This operation was carried out in coordination with the South Council.

Once assembled, the units will be transported into West Zouk for installation. The municipality of West Zouk is designated to oversee distribution of the homes to residents whose dwellings were fully destroyed.

Design and Capacity

Each prefabricated home consists of two rooms, a small kitchen, and a bathroom.

West Zouk sustained extensive damage due to Israeli airstrikes and ground incursions prior to the withdrawal of Israeli forces and the subsequent entry and deployment of the Lebanese Army in the town on 21 July.

Commission Statement and Sourcing

Brigadier General Bassam Nablusi, Secretary-General of the Higher Relief Commission, confirmed the dispatch was implemented “in accordance with directives issued by His Excellency the President of the Council of Ministers, Judge Nawaf Salam.” He stated the objective is to ease the return of residents and displaced persons who lost their homes.

Nablusi added that part of the prefabricated homes was procured from the local market, while another portion was received as donations from associations. He affirmed ongoing efforts to secure additional batches—either through further donations or direct procurement—pending the launch of formal reconstruction and rebuilding workshops.
