Lebanese Parliament Speaker Nabbih Berri confirms Israel's request for a ceasefire and discusses ongoing negotiations and relations with Lebanese leadership.

Lebanese Parliament Speaker Nabbih Berri revealed that Israel has requested a ceasefire, information he has conveyed to the committee overseeing the implementation of the cessation of hostilities.
Berri made these remarks to Asharq Al-Awsat on the eve of the fifth round of Lebanese-Israeli negotiations, which are being held under the auspices of the US State Department in Washington. He expressed satisfaction with the efforts that led to the ceasefire, hoping it would hold, stating that this depends on Israel's willingness to adhere to it, alongside Hezbollah's commitment, emphasizing that negotiations cannot take place under the pressure of ongoing fire.
He also affirmed that he maintains constant communication with the President, Joseph Aoun, and the Prime Minister, Nawaf Salam, although he noted that "they have ideas different from mine," adding, "I do not think there is a problem between us."
