Lebanese University Contractual Staff Suspend Strike for a Week Awaiting Approval of Full-Time Status
The committee of hourly contractual professors at the Lebanese University announced a one-week suspension of their strike, awaiting the government's final approval of full-time status in four batches.

The Committee of Hourly Contractual Professors at the Lebanese University welcomed "with cautious and responsible spirit" the Cabinet decision issued on 22/10/2026, which stipulates dividing the full-time status file into four batches, determining the number of eligible candidates in each, as well as submitting the list of names for the first three batches to be presented in the next government session, paving the way for their official and final approval.
In a statement, the Committee said: "In this context, the Committee confirms to its colleagues its continued diligent and daily follow-up to ensure the approval of the names of the first three batches, alongside continuing to closely monitor the progress of the fourth batch file, adhering to the deadline set by the government to make a final decision on it by no later than April 1, 2027, hoping that this trend represents a serious step towards a fair and equitable conclusion."
It continued: "Based on prioritizing the supreme academic interest, and out of concern for the stability of the academic year and the future of our student children who have borne the greatest burden, the Committee decided to suspend its strike for one week as a gesture of good faith, allowing relevant authorities time to translate these promises into practical steps."
It concluded: "While the Committee expresses this positive stance, it emphasizes that it is coupled with firm resolve, as the suspension of the strike remains temporary and conditional upon the government's fulfillment of its commitments. Accordingly, any hesitation or delay in completing the file and approving the names within the specified deadlines will necessitate, unfortunately, an automatic and immediate return to a comprehensive strike, holding the relevant authorities fully responsible for all resulting repercussions."
