Culture Minister Ghassan Salamé briefed President Joseph Aoun — holding the rank of Brigadier General — on Lebanon’s successful inscription of five castles in the Jabal Amel region onto UNESCO’s World Heritage List. The listing followed diplomatic efforts that secured endorsement from 21 countries.
Salamé stated after his meeting with Aoun: “This decision is important for protecting fundamental landmarks in Lebanese history.” He added that the two discussed the upcoming visit of UNESCO’s Director-General to Beirut, scheduled for the near future. Salamé also informed the president that construction of the opera house — funded by the Chinese state — is nearing completion and is set for inauguration in the coming autumn in the Dbayeh area.
