Life Sentence and $250,000 Compensation Ordered in Akkar Explosion Case

The Judicial Council issued its ruling on the Akkar Tellil explosion case, sentencing the defendant Jerji Elias Ibrahim to life hard labor. Additionally, several other defendants and suspects received prison sentences and fines. Four of those convicted were ordered to pay compensation to the families of the victims and injured, with some amounts reaching up to $250,000.

Lawyer Charbel Kamil Arab, representing some of the plaintiffs, stated that the verdict represents justice long awaited, especially as it coincides with the approach of the August 4 Beirut port explosion anniversary. He emphasized that people have the right to witness justice, which is the foundation of state authority, truth, and peace. He also highlighted the importance of justice applying to everyone equally, warning against holding only minor offenders accountable while powerful figures remain protected by influence and immunity.
