Patriarch Mar Bechara Boutros Raï met with French Ambassador Hervé Magro to commend his diplomatic service in Lebanon before his departure.

Patriarch Mar Bechara Boutros Raï received French Ambassador Hervé Magro at the Patriarchal residence in Bkerké during a farewell visit marking the end of his three-year diplomatic mission in Lebanon. The meeting was attended by Bishop Peter Karam.
At the start of the meeting, Patriarch Raï welcomed the ambassador and expressed his deep appreciation for the role he played throughout his tenure. He praised Magro’s diplomatic activity, consistent presence, and his concern for Lebanese affairs, affirming that the Patriarchal residence will remember him as an ambassador who loved Lebanon and built relationships of friendship and respect with its diverse communities during his years of service.
Ambassador Magro, in turn, conveyed his gratitude to Patriarch Raï for the affection and cooperation he received throughout his mission. He affirmed that Lebanon will remain in his heart and soul, and that he will leave carrying the fondest memories of its people, diversity, and cultural and human richness. He noted that his connection to Lebanon extended beyond his diplomatic work to include his family, which also formed wide friendships there.
The conversation addressed the deep historical ties between Lebanon and France and emphasized the importance of ongoing cooperation between the two countries. Attention was also given to the situation of the Lebanese community in France and the role of the Maronite Church in supporting its members and preserving their spiritual and national roots.
The participants confirmed that the Lebanese have demonstrated their presence and distinction within French society, contributing across various scientific, cultural, and economic fields.
Patriarch Raï and Ambassador Magro recalled key moments from their interactions over the past years, particularly the ambassador’s frequent visits to the Patriarchal residence and Deir al-Qamar. The ambassador expressed his special affection for Deir al-Qamar, describing it as an annual destination he is keen to visit due to its spiritual, national, and heritage significance.
Patriarch Raï emphasized that the personal relationships formed during diplomatic missions remain strong after official duties conclude. He wished Ambassador Magro success in his future responsibilities and stressed that Lebanon will continue to value everyone who has worked sincerely for its welfare and support.
The meeting concluded with an exchange of words of thanks and appreciation. Patriarch Raï commended the ambassador for his commitment and genuine friendship toward Lebanon, while Ambassador Magro thanked the Patriarch for the warm reception he received in Bkerké throughout his years of service, affirming that he will carry with him the image of Lebanon he loved and its people who will remain close to his heart.
