Peace Office: Any Position Attributed to Salam or Rubio Outside Official Statements Does Not Reflect Meeting Content

The Media Office of Prime Minister Nawaf Salam issued the following statement:

“Lebanese media outlets circulated statements attributed to Prime Minister Dr. Nawaf Salam and US Secretary of State Marco Rubio, allegedly contained in the minutes of their meeting in Washington.”

It added: “The Media Office wishes to confirm that these statements are entirely fictional and were never made during the meeting. It calls on media outlets to exercise accuracy and refer to official sources regarding the content of the encounter.”

It clarified that “Prime Minister Salam emphasized during the meeting the necessity of activating the Tripartite Framework and translating the principles of reciprocity and phased implementation into practical steps and tangible results on the ground, leading to the restoration of Lebanon’s full sovereignty, the complete Israeli withdrawal from Lebanese territory, and the restriction of arms solely to the state across its entire territory. He also stressed the need for a clear timeline for implementing commitments, ensuring progress in both the Israeli withdrawal and the extension of state authority and exclusive control over weapons, as well as establishing a reliable verification mechanism as stipulated in the framework.”

It continued: “Similarly, the statement issued by the US Department of State confirmed that Secretary Rubio renewed the United States’ strong commitment to supporting Lebanon in implementing the Tripartite Framework and praised the efforts of Prime Minister Salam’s government to extend state authority.”

It concluded: “Therefore, any other statements or positions attributed to Prime Minister Salam or Secretary Rubio outside what was officially released by both sides do not reflect the content of the meeting in any way.”
