Photos: Beirut billboards urge President Aoun to sign general amnesty law

Beirut entered today, Monday 31\8\2026, into a wave of popular and human rights activism supporting the newly approved general amnesty law by the Parliament, with multiple areas of the capital displaying messages urging President of the Republic General Joseph Aoun to accelerate signing the law into effect, through banners bearing appeals on behalf of Lebanon's prisoners.

​While some banners called on President Aoun to stop the countdown to death in prisons, others expressed gratitude to the MPs who voted in favor of the law, stating they "aligned with their humanity by lifting injustice and correcting the course of justice".

​This follows similar banner displays in recent days across several Lebanese regions, particularly in the streets of Tripoli and the Beqaa Valley, coinciding with the deaths of two Lebanese citizens held at Roumieh and Zahle prisons due to the severe conditions in the country’s detention facilities.
