President Aoun: Committed to Implementing the 'Framework Formula' but Fear Israeli Practices Could Affect It

President of the Republic Joseph Aoun indicated that "Israel's continued destruction of homes and bulldozing of villages in the south constitutes a direct violation of human rights and a clear breach of international laws and norms, which requires international action to stop it."

President Aoun added, before the United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights Volker Turk, that "Israel also targeted religious and heritage sites, and this reveals premeditated intentions against people and stone, especially since such places are not military and do not witness an armed presence there," affirming that "Lebanon is committed to implementing the 'framework formula' but fears that Israeli practices may affect its effectiveness, and it will not accept the continued violation of its terms."

For his part, Commissioner Turk indicated that "the Commission is following developments in Lebanon, especially the ongoing Israeli attacks since last March 2, to prepare a detailed report on the violations affecting human rights."
