Raï Says Aoun: Rome Talks Successful, Israel Must Cooperate Slightly

Maronite Patriarch Cardinal Bechara Boutros al-Raï relayed remarks by President Joseph Aoun during a meeting at Baabda Palace, quoting Aoun as saying Israel “must act differently, especially since negotiations are taking place under America’s auspices.”

Rome Negotiations and Israeli Cooperation

Following the meeting, Raï stated that Aoun described the Rome negotiations as successful but emphasized that “Israel must cooperate slightly.”

Raï confirmed he had discussed the Rome negotiations with Aoun and noted the Vatican’s involvement in Lebanon’s affairs. He also congratulated the president on his “honorable positions,” which, according to Raï, instill confidence among all Lebanese citizens.

Vatican Engagement and National Confidence

The patriarch observed that “the heavens are open and addressing the Lebanese people, urging them to trust themselves, their homeland, and their state.” He added: “Fifteen saints and blesseds — this is no game, and no country is like this one.”

Southern Border Schools and Reconstruction

Raï affirmed that Catholic schools in southern border villages have remained open and are handling tuition fee matters. He called for the return of southern residents alongside reconstruction efforts.
