Raji and Lacroix Discuss Future of International Presence After UNIFIL Mission Ends
Lebanese Foreign Minister Youssef Raji and UN Under-Secretary-General Jean-Pierre Lacroix discussed the future of international presence in South Lebanon following the conclusion of UNIFIL's current mandate.

Minister of Foreign Affairs and Emigrants Youssef Raji met with UN Under-Secretary-General for Peace Operations Jean-Pierre Lacroix, in the presence of the Commander of the United Nations Interim Force in Lebanon (UNIFIL), Major General Diodato Abagnara, and the accompanying delegation.
During the meeting, they discussed the situation in southern Lebanon and the future of the international presence after the end of UNIFIL's mission in its current form.
Raji appreciated "the sacrifices made by peacekeeping soldiers to maintain stability and security in southern Lebanon." He reaffirmed "Lebanon's position calling for the retention of an international force to replace 'UNIFIL' upon the completion of its tasks at the end of the year."
For his part, Lacroix stressed "the importance of preparing for the next phase," noting that "the Security Council will soon begin negotiations on this file." He affirmed "the United Nations' commitment to playing a constructive role in this stage, with full respect for Lebanon's position."
The two sides agreed on "the necessity of intensifying efforts to overcome obstacles and ensure the continuation of an international presence under the UN flag in southern Lebanon."
