Salam Discusses Economic Relations with US Treasury Secretary

Prime Minister Nawaf Salam met with US Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent at the US Treasury Department headquarters in Washington, attended by Finance Minister Yassin Jaber and Lebanon's Ambassador to the United States Nada Hamadeh Mouawad.

The meeting focused on discussing economic and financial relations between Lebanon and the United States. President Salam outlined the progress made by the government in the path of financial and banking reforms, as well as the steps being taken to address the repercussions of the financial crisis and rebuild the banking sector.

Discussions also covered the trajectory of negotiations with the International Monetary Fund (IMF) and cooperation with the World Bank. President Salam requested US support for Lebanon's efforts to advance along these two paths and secure the necessary backing for the economic recovery and reform program.

Furthermore, they discussed the government's efforts to combat the cash economy, limit the use of cash outside the financial system, and enhance transparency, compliance, and the fight against money laundering and terrorist financing. These measures contribute to rebuilding confidence in the Lebanese financial sector and strengthening its integration into the international financial system.
