Salam: Lebanese Agree on Restricting Weapons and Hezbollah Must Adhere to This Principle

Prime Minister Nawaf Salam affirmed that Lebanon is committed to establishing state sovereignty, stressing that the Lebanese have agreed on restricting weapons to the state and that Hezbollah must adhere to this principle.

In statements to "Al Sharq Bloomberg," he said that the United Nations Interim Force in Lebanon (UNIFIL) will not continue in its current form.

On economic matters, Salam stated that the government has submitted a draft to the Parliament paving the way for an agreement with the International Monetary Fund.

Salam also noted significant cooperation with Syria to control borders and prevent drug smuggling, affirming that Lebanon wants to build new relations with Syria based on mutual reconciliation. He clarified that he requested the appointment of a new ambassador from Iran to Lebanon instead of the previous one, emphasizing that relations between the two countries must be based on mutual respect.
