During Meeting with Rubio, Salam Stresses Need to Activate Tripartite Framework

Prime Minister Nawaf Salam met with US Secretary of State Marco Rubio at the US Department of State in Washington, attended by Foreign Minister and Emigrants Affairs Minister Youssef Rajji, US State Department Advisor Dan Holler, Lebanese Ambassador to the United States Nada Hamadeh Mouawad, and US Ambassador to Lebanon Michel Issa.

The meeting discussed developments in Lebanon and the region, as well as the path toward restoring Lebanon's full sovereignty.

President Salam stressed that Lebanon looks forward to a renewed partnership with the United States that keeps pace with the project of rebuilding the state and strengthening its legitimate institutions.

President Salam emphasized the necessity of moving to the stage of activating the Tripartite Framework and translating the principles of reciprocity and phased implementation into practical steps and tangible results on the ground, leading to the restoration of Lebanon's full sovereignty, complete Israeli withdrawal from Lebanese territory, and the restriction of arms to the state across all its lands.

In this context, he affirmed the importance of establishing a clear timeline for implementing the commitments outlined in the framework, ensuring progress in the tracks of Israeli withdrawal, extension of state authority, and monopoly on arms, alongside creating a reliable verification mechanism to monitor implementation and ensure compliance with pledges, preventing non-implementation from being used as a pretext to derail the process.

President Salam affirmed that the Tripartite Framework is not limited to security arrangements but also includes supporting government efforts in relief, recovery, and reconstruction, rehabilitating infrastructure and basic services, and preparing conditions for the return and stabilization of displaced persons in their areas. He stressed the importance of mobilizing American and international support for the return and recovery track, particularly in war-damaged areas.

He also emphasized the importance of continued US support for the Lebanese Army and enhancing its capabilities, enabling it to fulfill its responsibilities and extend state authority over all national territories.

For his part, Secretary Rubio affirmed the United States' commitment to supporting Lebanon and its legitimate institutions, continuing to support the Lebanese Army and enhance its capabilities, and stressed the importance of proceeding with the implementation of the Tripartite Framework to achieve stability and security.
