Salim Meets EU Mediterranean Commissioner: Emphasis on Supporting the South's Return and Recovery Path

Prime Minister Najib Salim held a meeting with European Union Commissioner for Mediterranean Affairs Dubravka Šuica at the permanent mission of Lebanon to the United Nations in New York, attended by Minister of Foreign Affairs and Expatriates Joseph Aoun.

The participants discussed relations between Lebanon and the European Union and ways to strengthen them, as well as developments in Lebanon and the region.

Šuica affirmed the European Union’s support for Lebanon, noting that the EU will begin disbursing the second tranche of 500 million euros from the aid package designated for Lebanon.

She also emphasized the importance of continuing the reforms initiated by the government, particularly those required to reach an agreement with the International Monetary Fund.

President Salim stressed the importance of supporting the return and recovery path, especially in the south, which contributes to stabilizing the return of residents, restoring essential services, and strengthening the resilience of Lebanese people in affected areas.

Šuica confirmed the European Union’s readiness to continue supporting Lebanon in this endeavor.
