Salim Urges Iran to Nominate a New Ambassador

Prime Minister Najib Salim held a meeting with Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian in New York on the sidelines of the United Nations General Assembly, attended by Foreign Minister Joseph Aoun and Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi.

Salim noted that "Lebanon has paid a heavy price for its security, stability, and economy, and does not wish to be a battleground for regional conflicts or exchange of messages," adding that "the relationship between Lebanon and Iran is historical between the two countries and peoples."

He also affirmed that "Lebanon looks forward to opening a new chapter and building a healthy relationship between states based on mutual respect for sovereignty and independence, non-interference in each other's affairs, and shared interests." He said: "We wish Iran and its people all good fortune, security, stability, prosperity, and growth."

He urged Iran to nominate a new ambassador to Lebanon, stressing that "the priority remains the complete withdrawal of Israel from Lebanese territory and an end to its attacks, as well as advancing the establishment of full Lebanese state authority across its entire territory and the exclusive control of arms by the state."
