Spanish and Indian UNIFIL Battalions Hold Medical Day in Al-Mari

Spanish and Indian battalions deployed as part of the United Nations Interim Force in Lebanon (UNIFIL) held a medical day in the village of Al-Mari, located in the Hasbaya District. The event delivered free health and medical services to residents, including general medical consultations and dental care.

Medical teams from both the Spanish and Indian battalions participated in the activity. A large number of local citizens attended and received essential primary healthcare services, as part of efforts to address the medical needs of the local population.

The medical day was carried out in coordination with local authorities, who commended the initiative and described it as facilitating residents’ access to healthcare—particularly given the difficult conditions prevailing in the area.

Civil-military cooperation in southern Lebanon

This activity forms part of a series of civilian initiatives implemented by the Spanish battalion across southern Lebanon, alongside its peacekeeping duties under the UNIFIL mission. These initiatives aim to support local communities and strengthen cooperation and trust between UNIFIL personnel and residents.

Spain’s UNIFIL deployment since 2006

Spain has contributed to UNIFIL since September 2006. The Spanish battalion is stationed at the “Miguel de Cervantes” base in Marjayoun, which hosts the headquarters of UNIFIL’s Eastern Sector. Approximately 650 Spanish military personnel are currently engaged in implementing UNIFIL’s mandate under UN Security Council Resolution 1701, while continuing to conduct civil-military cooperation programs designed to assist the population of southern Lebanon.
