The parliamentary subcommittee derived from the National Defense Committee, tasked with examining the update of the municipal law, held a session this afternoon at the Parliament. The meeting was chaired by MP Jihad Al-Samad and attended by the committee members.
Following the session, the committee issued a statement indicating that after discussion and deliberation, it was agreed to request that subcommittee members provide their opinions, as well as the views of their respective parliamentary blocs, regarding Articles 9, 10, and 11 of the municipal law. These articles pertain to the members of the municipal council, their term durations, and the electoral system.
Regarding the Beirut municipality, there are existing draft laws currently held by the General Secretariat of the Parliament. The committee decided to postpone addressing this matter until those proposals are finalized.
