UNIFIL Commander: We Are Working Seriously to Avoid Any Security Vacuum

UNIFIL Head and Force Commander Major General Diodato Abagnara called for "working seriously to avoid any security vacuum." He stressed that "what is required is to provide the best conditions to maintain stability, in cooperation with the United Nations, Lebanese authorities, other relevant parties, and the international community."

During his participation in the "Southern Women's Mouna Exhibition" organized by the Municipality of Tyre, he noted that "we have three months until the end of the year for UNIFIL's mandate to expire, but I believe that the future starts today. Therefore, we cannot wait for the future to come; we must work from now on, day after day, to create the conditions we want for the next phase."

Abagnara said: "We must act today, fulfill our duties today, and then let the future take shape through what we do now. This is my vision, and I will remain here as long as my presence is required and necessary for peace and stability in service of the people. For me, being here alongside the people is a great honor. We are here to serve and support them, because UNIFIL exists for the people."

He added: "It has always been our dream to continue working and moving forward, and to keep building a better future. We must continue the journey and keep working together, because what we aspire to can only be achieved through cooperation, determination, and persistence."

He pointed out that "we are all concerned with this matter, and we must remain united and continue our efforts to achieve our vision and goals. In another way, we want to show the situation and remind everyone that we can all achieve peace and security together."

He continued: "You can fix and change this place; it is a beautiful place, and you can work for its people, its women and men, which is one of the most important things. I just want to remind you that we can work together if we work for peace and goodness. We all need to be together; no one can start alone, no one. Therefore, we must work every day. This is the only way to reform and prove that this vision is possible."

Abagnara thanked the media for standing by UNIFIL and covering its activities, saying: "I want to thank you very much for the great efforts you make every day. We attach special importance to supporting women, as they constitute a fundamental force in society and play a pivotal role in building a more stable future."

After touring the exhibition sections, Tyre Mayor Hassan Dbouk thanked the UNIFIL Commander for accepting the invitation and participating in the exhibition, stressing UNIFIL's role in the peace process and thanking it and its commander for "providing aid to the local community and supporting local residents."

Abagnara distributed gifts to the women participating in the exhibition.
