US Vice President JD Vance and Secretary of State Marco Rubio called President Aoun to discuss Lebanon's situation and reaffirm US support for Lebanese sovereignty.

President Michel Joseph Aoun received a telephone call this afternoon from US Vice President JD Vance and US Secretary of State Marco Rubio. The conversation focused on the latest developments regarding Lebanon’s situation and the post-Switzerland meetings phase.
Both Vance and Rubio affirmed the United States' support for the positions held by President Aoun and the Lebanese government in their efforts to extend the authority of the legitimate state and strengthen its national sovereignty across the entire Lebanese territory through its army and security forces alone. They emphasized enabling Lebanon to fulfill its commitments in this regard.
Vance and Rubio also stressed the US commitment to follow up on the implementation of agreements reached during the Switzerland meetings, including the formation of a joint cell involving the United States, Lebanon, and the Islamic Republic of Iran to maintain the ceasefire in Lebanon and monitor the execution of related measures. They noted that arrangements concerning the operation and composition of this cell are currently under review.
President Aoun expressed his gratitude to Vice President Vance and Secretary of State Rubio for the attention the United States is giving to Lebanon, aiming to end the war there and reinforce the authority of the Lebanese state and the independence of its decision-making. He underscored Lebanon’s sole responsibility for preserving national sovereignty, the dignity of its people, and their safety.
