President of the Republic General Joseph Aoun affirmed that "Lebanon highly appreciates the efforts made by French President Emmanuel Macron to help Lebanon face the current crisis it is experiencing as a result of the continued Israeli aggressions on its territory and the current military escalation in the south."
Aoun said during his reception of the Chief of Staff of the French President General Vincent Giraud: The discussions I always hold with the French President reflect a keenness to support Lebanon to end the state of war and help Lebanon in all fields.
He added "Lebanon welcomes the desire of France and other European countries to keep forces in the south after the start of UNIFIL's withdrawal to help the Lebanese army maintain security and stability, provided that the formula under which these forces will operate is determined in consultation with the concerned countries and the United Nations. We attach importance to holding the conference to support the army and internal security forces, as well as the reconstruction conference."
He added "I renew my condolences for the martyrdom of the French soldiers in UNIFIL, and the judiciary has taken control of this incident and continues to investigate it in preparation for arresting the perpetrators."
