A joint initiative funded by the European Union is moving forward in Lebanon, targeting food security for both refugees and the communities hosting them. The project, announced by the Ministry of Agriculture, is being executed in collaboration with the EU, the Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO), and the World Food Programme, with financial backing from the European Union.

Agriculture Minister Nizar Hani has called for a high-level meeting to provide strategic guidance and approve key decisions and implementation mechanisms. This meeting aims to align the project with Lebanon's current context, ensuring the effective and continuous execution of the initiative titled "Contributing to the Enhancement of Food Security for Refugees and Host Communities in Lebanon."

Hani explained that the project, financed by the EU, focuses on boosting farmers' productive capacity through cash support, technical training, and the rehabilitation of agricultural assets. It also supports land rehabilitation via grants, develops irrigation infrastructure such as mountain ponds and irrigation networks, and improves access to water resources. Additionally, the project works to strengthen institutional capacities related to agricultural inputs and production systems.

The minister stated that enhancing food security has become a national and strategic priority, directly linked to the resilience of rural communities and their economic and social stability. He also emphasized the importance of specialized and focused media coverage on agricultural and developmental issues, noting the media's essential role in highlighting the agricultural sector's importance, shedding light on challenges and opportunities, and raising awareness among citizens and the international community about the need to support farmers and safeguard national food security.
