The Israeli army punished two soldiers after one was documented insulting a Christian religious symbol in southern Lebanon, sentencing the perpetrator to 21 days and the one who filmed to 14 days in military prison.

The spokesman for the Israeli army, Avichay Adraee, wrote on the "X" platform:

"Following the incident in which a soldier from the Defense Army was documented insulting a Christian religious symbol in southern Lebanon several weeks ago, the incident was investigated by the commanders in the field, after which it was summarized by the commander of the 162nd Division.

At the conclusion of the investigation, the soldier who was documented committing the act was sentenced to 21 days of military imprisonment, while the soldier who filmed the incident was sentenced to 14 days of military imprisonment.

The Defense Army views this incident with utmost severity, and expresses its respect for freedom of religion and worship, as well as for the holy places and religious symbols of all religions and sects.

Emphasis is placed on the instructions regarding dealing with religious institutions and religious symbols before the forces enter the relevant areas in an organized manner."
