Israeli media reported this Tuesday evening that the army blew up a giant tunnel and Hezbollah infrastructure in the town of Al-Qantara in southern Lebanon with 570 tons of explosives.
Yedioth Ahronoth newspaper confirmed, quoting the army, that the tunnel located in the Al-Qantara village area, which is the largest discovered in southern Lebanon so far, has been completely destroyed.
The explosion caused noticeable ground tremors in wide areas, with residents in northern Israel reporting feeling a slight tremor, while the sound of powerful explosions was heard in areas of southern Lebanon.
Minutes before the explosion, sirens sounded in Misgav Am in northern Galilee, and interceptor missiles were launched at suspected aerial targets in Al-Zour, where Israeli army forces are stationed in southern Lebanon.
The Israeli army announced that it is examining the results of the interception operation. It indicated that the sirens were activated out of fear of falling shrapnel from the interceptor missile.
Earlier today, the Israeli army called on residents of Upper Galilee towns to stay in their homes on Tuesday evening, prior to carrying out an operation to detonate "massive weapons infrastructure" discovered during battles in southern Lebanon.
The army clarified that "after the operation is carried out, communities near the explosion site will receive defensive instructions," noting that the sound of the explosion might be heard throughout Galilee and the Golan Heights.
