The government of the Republic of Korea welcomed the decision of the Lebanese Ministry of Public Health to classify the Republic of Korea as a reference country in the field of pharmaceuticals, as stated in the official decision issued on 21 April 2026.

The government of the Republic of Korea welcomed the decision of the Lebanese Ministry of Public Health to classify the Republic of Korea as a reference country in the field of pharmaceuticals, as stated in the official decision issued on 21 April 2026.
It considered that this decision reflects the continuous development in bilateral cooperation in the health sector, and the level of trust built between the regulatory bodies in both countries.
It issued the following statement:
The government of the Republic of Korea expresses its appreciation to the Lebanese Ministry of Public Health for recognizing the Korean regulatory system, as well as the quality, safety, and effectiveness of Korean pharmaceutical products and biotechnologies. This classification is also expected to contribute to improving access to high-quality medicines in Lebanon.
The government points out that this outcome is the result of continuous cooperation between the relevant parties in both countries, including the Lebanese Ministry of Public Health and the Korean Ministry of Food and Drug Safety.
Furthermore, the Minister of Food and Drug Safety, Oh Yu-kyoung, stated that this classification is expected to support the global expansion of Korean pharmaceutical and biotechnology industries, and contribute to diversifying drug supply chains.
The Ambassador of the Republic of Korea to Lebanon, Jeon Gyu-seok, also noted that this decision would strengthen bilateral cooperation in the health sector, and contribute to improving access to essential medicines.
The government of the Republic of Korea also intends to support efforts aimed at promoting exchange between the Korean and Lebanese pharmaceutical sectors, including through organizing a business forum.
The government of the Republic of Korea will continue to work closely with Lebanon to strengthen cooperation in the health sector.
